Example input for SVG to ICO Converter
Illustrative input, not a record of a completed test. Check the selected mode before running it.
Input: photo.svg → output: photo.ico (illustrative filename). How to convert SVG to ICO
Start with a self-contained SVG. ICO is already selected as the output on this page.
- Export your logo as SVG with text converted to paths and required images embedded. A square canvas is a useful starting point for a website icon.
- Select Choose images and add the SVG. Leave Convert to set to ICO; this output does not use the quality slider.
- Select Convert images and open the result preview. Check the reported dimensions and whether the logo has readable edges and the intended background.
- Download the ICO file, install it on your website and check the result in a browser tab. Keep the source SVG for future edits.
Why does my SVG fail or lose lettering?
The SVG must be self-contained. Export another copy with fonts converted to paths and external images embedded. Scripts and external resources are rejected; test a simple SVG to distinguish a file issue from a loading problem.
Will the ICO stay editable as a vector?
No. ICO stores a rasterized version of the artwork. Edit the original SVG and convert it again whenever you need a different logo.
Prepare your SVG logo for a favicon
Use a simple logo with a square canvas and enough contrast to remain recognizable at small sizes. Embed required images and convert text to paths before exporting the SVG. External resources and scripts are not supported. A vector logo becomes a raster icon during conversion.
Use the downloaded ICO on your website
Rename the downloaded file to favicon.ico, place it at your site's root, and add <link rel="icon" href="/favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon"> inside the HTML head. For an Astro site, put the file in public/favicon.ico. Check the deployed icon in a browser tab; a cached favicon may take time to update.
Does this create a complete favicon package?
This converter exports an ICO image and scales images larger than 256 × 256 to fit that limit. It does not offer selectable 16, 32 or 48 pixel sizes, a multi-size package, an Apple touch icon or a web app manifest. Inspect the downloaded icon at small display sizes before using it.
Supported features and limits
One icon per file. Images larger than 256 × 256 are scaled to fit.
Before you use the result
- Inspect edges and any transparent areas in the exported image.
- Compare output dimensions and file size. Changing format does not guarantee a smaller file.
- Animated or multi-page sources produce one still image here. Renaming the extension does not perform a conversion.
If SVG to ICO Converter does not work as expected
If your SVG file fails, confirm it opens in its original application and is not just a renamed file. Try one smaller image to distinguish a format problem from browser memory limits.

A few things to know.
Which image formats can I convert?
Choose from 23 input formats and 21 output formats. HEIC and HEIF are input-only. Animated and multi-page files become a single still image. SVG input must be self-contained; convert text to paths to preserve lettering. SVG output embeds a PNG bitmap; it does not create editable vector paths. PSD output is flattened.
Will my images lose quality?
PNG uses lossless encoding. JPEG, WebP, AVIF, JPEG XL and JPEG 2000 offer quality controls. GIF reduces colors, PGM is grayscale and PBM is black and white. ICO images are scaled to fit 256 × 256. File sizes may grow or shrink. Metadata, including camera and location information, is not copied.
Are my images uploaded anywhere?
No. Your browser handles every conversion locally. Files are not sent to a server or saved after you leave this page. For browser stability, each image is limited to 20 MB and 40 million pixels.
