Example input for JPEG 2000 to GIF Converter
Illustrative input, not a record of a completed test. Check the selected mode before running it.
Input: photo.jp2 → output: photo.gif (illustrative filename). How to convert JPEG 2000 to GIF
GIF is selected on this page. Files are processed locally; the page downloads its conversion engine on first use.
- Choose a JPEG 2000 file (.jp2, .j2k, .j2c, .jpc) or drag it into the workspace. Add up to 30 images, no larger than 20 MB each.
- Leave Convert to set to GIF. The quality slider is disabled for this output.
- Select Convert images. Open a preview and check the output dimensions.
- Download the .gif file or use Download all (.zip) for a batch. Open the result in the application you intend to use.
Why won't my JPEG 2000 file convert?
Check that the file is an actual JPEG 2000 image rather than a renamed file. Try one smaller image first; the input limit is 40 million pixels and 16,384 pixels per side. Allow the processing engine to load before retrying.
Before converting your JPEG 2000 file
JPEG 2000 inputs may use JP2, J2K, J2C or JPC extensions. Preserve the source if you need its original precision or associated imaging metadata.
What changes in the GIF output?
This output is not an animation. Colors are reduced to at most 256, and transparency is on or off rather than partially transparent.
Supported features and limits
Single frame only. Colors are reduced to a 256-color palette; transparency is on or off.
Before you use the result
- Inspect edges and any transparent areas in the exported image.
- Compare output dimensions and file size. Changing format does not guarantee a smaller file.
- Animated or multi-page sources produce one still image here. Renaming the extension does not perform a conversion.
If JPEG 2000 to GIF Converter does not work as expected
If your JPEG 2000 file fails, confirm it opens in its original application and is not just a renamed file. Try one smaller image to distinguish a format problem from browser memory limits.
Where your input is processed

A few things to know.
Which image formats can I convert?
Choose from 23 input formats and 21 output formats. HEIC and HEIF are input-only. Animated and multi-page files become a single still image. SVG input must be self-contained; convert text to paths to preserve lettering. SVG output embeds a PNG bitmap; it does not create editable vector paths. PSD output is flattened.
Will my images lose quality?
PNG uses lossless encoding. JPEG, WebP, AVIF, JPEG XL and JPEG 2000 offer quality controls. GIF reduces colors, PGM is grayscale and PBM is black and white. ICO images are scaled to fit 256 × 256. File sizes may grow or shrink. Metadata, including camera and location information, is not copied.
Are my images uploaded anywhere?
No. Your browser handles every conversion locally. Files are not sent to a server or saved after you leave this page. For browser stability, each image is limited to 20 MB and 40 million pixels.
