- What to provide
- AVIF files (.avif). Keep the source if you will need to edit it again.
- What you get
- PNG still images (.png), individually or in a ZIP. Still image output. Original dimensions are preserved.
Example input for AVIF to PNG Converter
Illustrative input, not a record of a completed test. Check the selected mode before running it.
Input: photo.avif → output: photo.png (illustrative filename). How to convert AVIF to PNG
PNG is already selected on this page. Your image files stay on your device during conversion.
- Select Choose images and add your .avif files, or drag them into the workspace. Each file must be no larger than 20 MB; a batch can contain up to 30 images.
- Leave Convert to set to PNG. The quality slider is disabled because PNG uses lossless encoding.
- Select Convert images. The first conversion may take longer while the local image engine loads. Open a result preview to check the edges and transparent areas.
- Download each PNG or select Download all (.zip). Open a downloaded file in the app that rejected your AVIF image.
Why is the PNG larger than the AVIF?
AVIF is designed for efficient compression. PNG often needs more space for the same decoded image. If your destination accepts JPEG and you do not need transparency, AVIF to JPG may be a better fit.
Can I just rename .avif to .png?
No. Renaming changes the filename, not the encoded image data. Use the converter and download the newly encoded PNG.
When should you convert AVIF to PNG?
Use PNG when an editor, presentation or upload form accepts PNG but rejects AVIF. For example, convert a downloaded product image before adding it to a slide. Keep the original AVIF too: PNG is often larger, so converting to PNG is not a file-size optimization.
What happens to transparency and quality?
PNG supports transparency and uses lossless encoding for the decoded image. Conversion cannot recover detail already lost in the AVIF source. Metadata is removed, animated AVIF becomes one still image, and color or HDR appearance should be checked in the destination app.
Supported features and limits
Still image output. Original dimensions are preserved.
Before you use the result
- Inspect edges and any transparent areas in the exported image.
- Compare output dimensions and file size. Changing format does not guarantee a smaller file.
- Animated or multi-page sources produce one still image here. Renaming the extension does not perform a conversion.
If AVIF to PNG Converter does not work as expected
If your AVIF file fails, confirm it opens in its original application and is not just a renamed file. Try one smaller image to distinguish a format problem from browser memory limits.

A few things to know.
Which image formats can I convert?
Choose from 23 input formats and 21 output formats. HEIC and HEIF are input-only. Animated and multi-page files become a single still image. SVG input must be self-contained; convert text to paths to preserve lettering. SVG output embeds a PNG bitmap; it does not create editable vector paths. PSD output is flattened.
Will my images lose quality?
PNG uses lossless encoding. JPEG, WebP, AVIF, JPEG XL and JPEG 2000 offer quality controls. GIF reduces colors, PGM is grayscale and PBM is black and white. ICO images are scaled to fit 256 × 256. File sizes may grow or shrink. Metadata, including camera and location information, is not copied.
Are my images uploaded anywhere?
No. Your browser handles every conversion locally. Files are not sent to a server or saved after you leave this page. For browser stability, each image is limited to 20 MB and 40 million pixels.
