How to remove an image background without AI
Make a solid or simple background transparent using color selection and manual brushes.
- Choose a PNG, JPEG or WebP image, drag it into the workspace, or paste a screenshot.
- Choose Remove background and click a background color. Only connected pixels with similar colors are removed.
- Adjust Color tolerance to refine the most recent removal. Lower it if parts of your subject disappear, or increase it to remove more shades.
- Choose Erase or Restore, adjust Brush size, and drag over the areas to fix. Use Undo to reverse an edit or Reset image to start over.
- Select Download transparent PNG. The image keeps its original dimensions; the preview checkerboard is not exported.
Brush edits or a new background click finish the previous tolerance adjustment. This tool works by color rather than recognizing objects; complex backgrounds and fine hair may need manual cleanup.

Before you use the result
- This is color selection and manual brushing, not AI subject recognition. Similar foreground and background colors need manual refinement.
- Inspect hair, edges and holes at full size. JPEG cannot keep transparency.
If Background Remover does not work as expected
Check the sample and settings. If an input is rejected, follow the error shown rather than changing the file extension or removing required fields.

A few things to know.
What backgrounds work best?
Solid and nearly uniform backgrounds work best. This tool compares colors; it does not recognize people or objects. Similar colors in the subject may also be removed. Lower the tolerance or undo the edit, then use the brushes to refine it.
Can I restore something I erased?
Yes. Choose Restore and brush over the area, or use Undo for the latest edit. Reset image restores the entire original image. Your original file is never overwritten.
Will the download keep its size and transparency?
The PNG keeps the original pixel dimensions and the remaining transparency. The preview background is not exported. Original metadata is not copied, and browser color management may normalize colors.
